Years ago I first turned the camera on family and friends and found that when I brought lots of energy and enthusiasm as well as passion and confidence to shooting I captured some wonderful moments and expressions. I’ve also learned it takes more – a combination of an ability to “see”; a knowledge and understanding of light, color, and composition; and, an ability to connect with virtually anyone. All of it has to come together to create a lasting image.
A good portrait must also say something about who the subject is. It should capture your essence. Ideally it should portray you on location, in natural light, in real activities. But, wherever and however it is taken, the image has to reflect “you”.
